From Latin Sebastianus, name of an early Christian saint, from ancient city of Sebaste in Asia Minor (modern Sivas, Turkey), from Ancient Greek Σεβαστός(Sebastós, “august, venerable, exalted”), itself a translation of the Roman title Augustus.
